What We Delivered

  • Full earthworks and sub-base preparation for the shared pathway alignment, including grading and drainage upgrades to ensure a durable structure.
  • Installation of drainage and stormwater management features alongside the path to ensure year-round usability and minimise maintenance.
  • Coordination with the client and stakeholders, minimise disruption and deliver a pathway ready for community use.
  • High-quality sealed surfacing applied by the Oamaru crew, delivery a smooth, safe surface for pedestrians, cyclists, scooters and skaters.
  • Edge treatments, signage foundations and landscaping enhancements to integrate the path into the surrounding environment and improve user experience.

Why It Matters

Wanaka continues to experience rapid growth and demand for high quality active travel networks. By delivering the Wanaka Shared Pathway, WCL contributed to a safer, more connected infrastructure for the town – enabling walking, cycling and other forms of non-motorised travel to become more accessible.

The upgraded route provides residents and visitors alike with continuous, sealed surface adjacent to key routes.

For WCL, the project was an opportunity to bring together our regional teams, demonstrating our ability to deliver across multiple disciplines and locations. It aligns with our commitment to building infrastructure that supports communities, active lifestyles and regional connectivity.

Strengths We Brought to the Project

Regional civil construction expertise, coordinated multi-crew delivery (from Central Otago to Oamaru), community-led design focus, high-quality surface finish for active transport use.
